Don’t worry be happy

A common theme on the blog this week has been anxiety. Concerns surrounding employment, illness, lack of adequate health resources, sparsity of food and supplies, abuse, isolation and death of a loved one are prevalent during the current pandemic, evoking much stress, Stress is the greatest trigger of anxiety.

Fear often accompanies anxiety but they are not interchangeable. Example: someone scared the crap out of you in a dark room or at night. You are afraid of the dark now and anticipate that you will be frightened again. Now whenever you have to go into a dark place you begin to have scary thoughts of everything that could be lurking, waiting: you’re heart rate and respiration increases as you begin to panic.

The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders says “Fear is the emotional response to real or perceived imminent threat, whereas anxiety is anticipation of future threat”. Either way, the struggle to manage, maintain and overcome amid both conditions is really real.

I use essential oils all the time: aromatically, topically and internally. I have over 30 oils but I definitely use some way more than others. Two of my favorite are Bergamot and Lavendar. They happen to be ideal for stress, fear and anxiety management.

Bergamot aids the release of fear and the need to be in control. It promotes going with the flow of life instead of fighting against. I find it to be extremely uplifting and mood boosting.

Lavendar helps ease anger and frustration. It promotes restful sleep, improves feelings of well being and balances mood swings.

They are both calming, balancing to the nervous system, pain relieving and tension reducing disinfectants,

Don’t just take my word for it. Research and experience them for yourself. Learn how to use them safely and appropriately. Give them a try individually or combined. Inhale and observe how you feel, react, respond and let me know what you think.
