In-Balance

Greetings, Greetings, Greetings!

I am so thankful for this season and phase of my life. The last month has been “FULL” of uncovering and discovering buried treasures. When I think about treasures, I think of the things I most desire and value: a song or poem, a stone or piece of jewelry, a memory or experience, an act or emotion.

What do you treasure?

I’m treasuring my intuitive gifts: my willingness to recognize, dissect and address “life” and ability to stitch together (mend) continuity of peace throughout my interactions in my current existence.

What I’m not doing is being as physically active as I should be. My days have been consumed with teaching and feeding my children (they eat ALL day long and they are home ALL day, EVERY day now…feel me), my animals, and this blog. Mental, emotional, practical, and social self-care have been at the top of my holistic to do list. That means I’ve been neglecting my physical and spiritual well-being. Not sure how healthy current condition are for our social lives but limitations placed on social outings and gatherings are pushing social distancing to the forefront of social self-care..

Through deeper connections I’ve made with me by me, I’m more in tune with what I need and why I want some things in my life. My relationship with myself taught me to be observant of my self-care homeostasis. Now it’s oh so much easier to detect when something is out of balance, facilitating regulation.

It’s important to find and maintain a healthy balance of self-care. Balance in terms of having too much here and not enough there, which may cause us to stumble, or loose our footing completely and fall on our asses. I prioritize based on what is going on with me and what’s needed in that moment. My mood, my career, my finances, my health, my appearance, challenges, comfort level, dreams etc. You wouldn’t use the same tactic to keep your balance while walking as you wouId doing a cartwheel…would you?

As a former gymnast (yep. that’s me doing a handstand in my early 40’s), I can tel you no, you wouldn’t. Different moves, different techniques, different environments…you get my point?

I constantly check in and ask myself “You good?” If the answer is yes, I carry on and if the answer is no, I make moves to get to a good (better or great) place. We are under the influence of a new moon. I find it helpful to take a peaceful pause right before since my energy goes into overdrive with the darkness. I used to suspect it’s because there was a New moon in the sky when I was born. That was a very busy day for me; you know making my worldly debut and history and all! I now know that urge to create and lose myself in possibilities is characteristic of the new moon phase.

Anyway, one way I prepare for what’s to come, is by cleansing and charging my stones, especially if they’ve been in heavy rotation. I used to laugh at the thought of my neighbors watching me do this twice a month and settling on the idea that I must practice some sort of “Black Magic”.

They would be partially correct because this, along with other natural (and some supernatural) resources are how my “Black” ancestors practiced medicine. Stones found in nature have energetic properties that can interact with our energetic field. This means that an energetic exchange takes place that can heal or hinder. We should clean our energy as well. Ever hugged someone and wanted to cry? Or crossed paths with someone and felt an immediate connection? Has your dog, who you trust, ever started growling and showing teeth to someone who was seemingly harmless? Well, I have, and I highly recommend learning about the history and practical uses of one of nature’s treasures. Especially if you have thought about alternate, holistic, medical therapies or have been drawn to a certain stone.

It will make my heart sing if I can get at least two people to dig deeper into the world of genuine, sacred crystals. You can find them outside, in stores, or online.

I enjoy seeing and feeling their energy, so I tend to buy mine, in person, but I have ordered some also. The color, the properties, the origins, the uses…I can talk about my relationship with and appreciation of stones another time.

Today I’m going to make sure we know there are different aspects of self-care and that each must be nurtured.

  • Emotional – self-love, acknowledge feelings, identify, accept and process emotions, forge, appreciate and admire self (qualities, strengths/weaknesses), connectedness to others
  • Mental- intellectually stimulate and motivate positive thinking and speaking
  • Personal –Know who you are……. be truthful, get to know the real YOU, not the person you are in the eyes of others or the person you were while in a toxic or hurtful space
  • Physical – nourishment (food and water), physical activity, appearance, massages, mani/pedi, hair cut, bathe, rest…(physical health, basic needs and movement)
  • Practical – safety, security and stability of environmental (home, work, community) and financial factors
  • Social – communication, spend time with friends that respect you, your time, opinion, feelings, and thoughts. release toxic relationships and people, set boundaries
  • Spiritual – nurture soul, freedom, faith, beliefs, values, what feeds your spirit, keep energy channels open, meditate, pray, chant, breathe…something greater than self

Balance does not always mean equal but fluidity among chakras and the constructs of self care ensure that we’re not expending too much energy in one place, for too long. Luckily, the earth is filled with tools for us to use. Let’s thank Mother Nature and celebrate Earth Day by smiling at the sun, singing with the wind, playing with the dirt, planting with the stars, dancing under the moon. Ground your spirit, center your mind, open your heart (or appropriate chakra) and do what feels right…in that order. And have FUN!

I’m going to play outside with my children before gardening and yard work.
